Mary "Matina" Captain, 79, Active in the Lorain Women's Bowling Association's for the past 55 years

She was born on March 9, 1924 in Cleveland, Ohio.

She was employed at Century Tel as a computer operator. Prior to this she was employed at Cleveland Trust Bank.

Mary was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Lorain. Mary was a member of the Daughters of Penelope, Quota Club, Gus' Volcanoes, and the Ladies Dart League. Mary also enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Lorain Women's Bowling Association since 1948. She had been very active and had participated in the Lorain Women's Bowling Association's League and Tournament Play for the past 55 years. She also enjoyed the game of ten pins. She had received the 1999-2000 Mark Stewart Pioneer of Bowling Award from the Lorain Women's Bowling Association.

Mary also enjoyed, golfing, playing, darts, crocheting, and traveling.

She is survived by her daughters: Donna Markou of Sheffield Village, Joanne Jones, of Findlay, Ohio and Debbie Byar of Grand Rapids, MI, 5 grandchildren, brother George Kapantas of Chicago, IL, and sister Dorothy Kuhar of Cleveland. She was preceded in death by her husband George in 1974, a brother Tom Kapantas and sisters Sylvia Paul and Irene Kapantas.

The family will receive friends on Monday, June 16, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, where the Trisayion Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. The family will also receive friends on Tuesday, June 17, 2003 from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 2000 Tower Blvd., Lorain with the Rev. Fr. Michael Gulgas, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
