Joseph A. Mikulan, 88, of Lorain, died Tuesday June 17, 2003 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a short illness.He was born March 13, 1915 in Lorain and had lived in Lorain most of his life. At the age of 5 he moved to Croatia and lived there until he was 12 before moving back to Lorain.
Mr. Mikulan worked at US Steel for 10 years. He then owned and operated a service station in Lorain. He them worked for Gulf Oil Corp. as a pump & tank mechanic retiring after 23 years. After retiring from Gulf he owned and operated Mick's Service where he continued to do service station maintenance until fully retiring.
He was a member of St. Vitus Catholic Church in Lorain, the Croatian Catholic Union, Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge #17, the Croatian Club of Lorain, Knights of Columbus of Lorain, the Spindle Top Club/Chevron Retirees Association, Lorain County Senior Citizens and AARP.
Mr. Mikulan enjoyed all sports, especially bowling, dancing and cutting hair.
He is survived by his daughter Lillian Csillag of Indianapolis, Indiana; son Ronald Mikulan of Amherst; 7 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter; sister Mary Simunovic of Elyria; 1 nephew, 2 nieces; former wife Dorothy Mikulan of North Ridgeville; 3 stepsons; 8 step grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Lena Mikulan (nee Rebman) in 1966; parents Steve & Agnes (nee Perosic) Mikulan, sister Ann Mikulan and brother Steve Mikulan.
Friends may call Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where the Parish Rosary will be prayed Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by a 10:00 a.m. funeral mass at St. Vitus Catholic Church, 1785 E. 32nd St., Lorain. The Rev. Simon Nekic, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
