John James Oravec, 63, Ford Retiree, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping
John James Oravec, age 63, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, June 18, 2003 in Lakewood Hospital following a 3-month illness.He was born on March 6, 1940 in Lorain and has been a Vermilion resident since 1965, moving from Lorain.
He was a veteran of the US Air Force serving during the Vietnam War Era. He worked as an inspector for Ford Motor Company in Lorain for 32 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of AMVETS Post 22 in Vermilion, Vermilion Fish & Game, LaGrange Fish & Hunt Club and the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, camping, travel, and photography.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Gloria Oravec (nee Bracy) of Vermilion, son David John Oravec of Vermilion, daughters Stacey Ann Webb of Vermilion and Christine Dianne Marr of Boston, MA, one granddaughter, 2 sisters, Joyce Vasco of Canfield and Renee Janscura of Lorain, and a brother William Ortiz of Lorain.
Preceding him in death were his parents, John George Oravec and Janet (nee Parobek) Natal and a sisters, Billie Lynn Ortiz.
Friends may call Sunday, June 22, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, where services will be held on Monday, June 23, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. Reverend John Hood, former pastor of Vermilion Evangelical & Reformed Church in Vermilion will officiate. Interment will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst. The Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct Military Graveside Services.
