Gerald Alton "Al" Babson, 98, Enjoyed boating and dancing

Gerald Alton Babson "Al", 98 of Vermilion, died Thursday, June 19, 2003 at the Inn at Chappel Creek after a short illness.

He was born February 9, 1905 in Cardington, OH and spent most of his life working in Eastlake. He moved to Vermilion after spending 37 years in Bonita Springs, FL.

Mr. Babson graduated from Ohio University. He was the director of building and ground for Willoughby-Eastlake School district. He was also a teacher and basketball coach for Willoughby School and Fairport Harbor School. He attended Grace United Methodist Church, Vermilion. He was past Commodore and Founding Member of the Naples U.S. Power Squadron, and a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. He enjoyed boating, and loved to dance.

Survivors include his wife, Irma Babson (nee Atkinson) to whom he was married 76 years; Don Alton Babson of Huron; 6 grandchildren, and 1 brother, Roger Babson of Columbus, OH.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Dexter J. and Mae (nee Williams) Babson; son, Dow Babson, 2001; 1 grandson, Ed Babson; 2 brothers, Daniel and Hezelton Babson; and a sister, Helen Pickard.

Friends may call Saturday, June 21, 2001 from noon until the time of a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. The Rev. Attila Szemesi, Pastor of the Amherst Congregational United Church of Christ, will officiate.
