Harold A. "Copper" Gauman, 85, Welder
Harold A. Copper Gauman, 85 years of age, and a resident of South Amherst, passed away Friday, June 20, 2003, at his son’s home in Parma following a sudden illness.He was born December 4, 1917 in Amherst. He has been a lifetime resident of South Amherst, graduating from South Amherst High School.
He was employed by Pfauldler Co., Elyria for 42 years, retiring in 1980 as a welder. He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, South Amherst. Harold was also a 50 year member of the Stonington Masonic Lodge and the South Amherst Swiss Lodge. While his boys were young, he was involved with Boy Scouts. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed gardening, playing piano, playing cards and spending time with his children.
Survivors include his sons, Dale A. Gauman of North Royalton and Wayne H. Gauman of Parma; his daughter, Gail Gauman of South Amherst; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and his brother Jack Gauman of Phoenix, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Virginia Gauman (nee Winson) in November 1990, by his parents, Fred and Lydia (nee Bauman) Gauman; and by his brother Clair Gauman.
Friends may call Sunday, June 22, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst where a Masonic Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 23, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Paul D. Eaton, pastor of ST. John United Church of Christ, South Amherst, will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
