Alexander "Shine" Albert, 83, WWII Veteran, former Avon Lake Fire Chief
Alexander "Shine" Albert, age 83, of Avon Lake, passed away, Saturday, June 21, 2003 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center, following a brief illness.Mr. Albert was born, February 6, 1920 in Lorain and had lived in Avon Lake since 1950.
Mr. Albert worked as a Firefighter in Avon Lake for many years and served as the Fire Chief from 1965 until his retirement in 1977. He was a WWII Navy Veteran serving as a Pharmacists Mate, assigned to the Atlantic Fleet. He was a 1938 graduate of Lorain High School, a member of the Avon Lake United Church of Christ and the Hungarian Reformed Church, Lorain. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 211, Avon Lake, VFW Post 1079, Elyria, and a life member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry, and music.
Mr. Albert is survived by son Alexander John Albert (Dora) of Lexington, Kentucky, and daughter Judith Ann Shaefer (Gary) of Avon Lake. Other survivors include 3 stepchildren, Todd Evans, Christopher Evans, and Renee Pillo, and a step granddaughter, Victoria Morgan Wolf. He is preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Blanche (nee Farkas) who passed away in 1987, a sister Yolanda Spancik and parents, Antal and Yolanda Albert.
Friends may call at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 163 Avon-Belden Rd., Avon Lake, Tuesday, June 24, 2003 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral services will private. Rev. Kelly Peters of Avon Lake United Church of Christ will officiate. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain. Memorials may be forwarded to the charity of the donor's choice.
