Lester M. Lanning, 93, Enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting, and boating

Lester M. Lanning, 93 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2003 at his home following a brief illness.

He was born October 29, 1909 in Hancock County, Ohio where he was raised. He has been a resident of Indian River, Michigan, and Daytona Beach, Florida before moving to Amherst 5 1/2 years ago.

He was a self-employed agricultural farmer in Hancock County, Ohio retiring at age 62. He was a member of the Indian River United Methodist Church in Michigan and a former member of Salem United Methodist Church where he served as past treasurer. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and boating.

Survivors include his daughters Harriett Mouer and Elizabeth Bishop, both of Amherst, five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Cleone L. Lanning (nee Monday) on August 8, 2002 by his parents Ray G. and Effie (nee Cromer) Lanning, by his brother Richard Lanning, and by his sisters Margaret Jimison and Helen Lyness.

Friends may call Monday, June 23, 2003 from 5-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. William Mouer, pastor of Family Fellowship Foursquare Church, Amherst will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Hancock County.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Family Fellowship Foursquare Church, 780 Cooper Foster Rd., Amherst, Ohio 44001 or the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, 5255 North Abbe Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035.
