Erika Lumpkin, 71, Former Nurse's aide, enjoyed landscaping and gardening

Erika Lumpkin (nee Cekan), age 71, of Lorain, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003 in New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, following a brief illness.

Born November 20, 1931 in Wangen, Germany, she had worked as a nurse's aide and then came to Lorain and had worked as a nurse's aide at Lorain Community Hospital from 1960 until her retirement in 1977. She enjoyed gardening and landscaping.

She is survived by three sons, Paris L. Lumpkin, Troy H. Lumpkin, and Tyrone S. Lumpkin, all of Lorain, five grandchildren: Brandi and Chardenea Lumpkin of Washington, DC Simone Jones of Oberlin, Jonathan Lumpkin of Lorain and Shatira Williams of Elyria, three sisters, Waltraud Blankenship of Lorain, Rosweta Doktor and Marlanie Cekan, both of Germany, three brothers, Franz Cekan, Jr., Adolf Cekan and Hasso Cekan, all of Germany, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband George Lee Lumpkin on December 7, 1984, her parents Franz and Sophia (nee Raadler) Cekan Sr., and six other siblings all in Germany.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 27, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. The family will also receive friends again on Saturday from 6:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 9:00 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 2702 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
