Frank Kanio, 77, WW II Veteran, US Steel Retiree
Frank Kanio, 77, of Lorain, died Friday, July 4, 2003 at his home after an illness with cancer. He was born March 11, 1926 in Elyria and had resided in Lorain most of his life.
He was a graduate of Lorain High School. Mr. Kanio served with the US Navy during World War II.
He worked at US Steel in Lorain as a pipe fitter for 40 years, retiring in 1986.
Mr. Kanio was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church in Elyria where he served as a church elder. He was chairman of the Workers Compensation Committee of the United Steelworkers Local #1104 for 20 years.
He enjoyed golfing, reading, and walking.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years June (nee Lehman), daughters Jane Huhn of Amherst and Linda Wirick of Lodi, 3 grandsons, and sister Ann Yaciw of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his parents Steve and Rose Kanio, and brothers Charles and John Kanio.
The family will receive friends Sunday, July 6, 2003 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Robert Bjelica, pastor of Seventh Day Adventist Church of Elyria will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
