Ted A. McArthur Sr., 81, Founder of McArthur & Son Heating & Air Conditioning

Photo of Ted A. McArthur Sr. Ted A. McArthur, Sr. 81, of Lorain, founder of McArthur & Son Heating & Air Conditioning in Lorain died on Friday, July 11, 2003, at Community Health Partners Hospital & Surgical Center in Lorain, Ohio following a lengthy illness.

Mr. McArthur was born on February 22, 1922, in Columbiaville, Michigan moving to Lorain, in 1962. He was a TECH Sgt. in the US Army during World War II. He was awarded the Good Conduct medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Theatre Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service medal with one Bronze Star. He was a lone survivor of one of General Patton's platoons.

In 1962, when Mr. McArthur moved to Lorain, he founded McArthur & Son Heating & Air Conditioning. He was the owner and operator until his retirement in 1989. He had previously worked for the Holland Furnace Co. He was a member of Heritage Presbyterian Church in Amherst. He was also a member of the American Legion in Michigan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, entertaining friends and was an avid golfer.

Mr. McArthur is survived by his wife of 59 years, Madalene (nee Heddon) McArthur of Lorain, his daughter, Dawn I. McArthur of Lorain, his two sons, Douglas H. McArthur of Amherst, Garfield Sidney McArthur of Clearwater, Florida, 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, his brothers Bruce McArthur of Sheffield Lake, Ohio, Irwin McArthur of Ludington, Michigan, and his sister Avis Surrell of Kentucky. He is preceded in death by two sons, Gregory McArthur on December 26, 1987, Ted Allen McArthur, Jr. on February 1, 2000, his parents, Sidney & Alllie (nee Pyles) McArthur, his sister Marjorie Drake, and brother Donald McArthur.

Friends may call at Schwartz Spence Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio on Wednesday, July 16, 2003 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. in Schwartz Spence Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals in Lorain, Ohio with Rev. James E. Smucker, pastor of Heritage Presbyterian Church officiating. Ted A. McArthur will be buried at Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Amherst Township, Ohio with full military honors provided by the VFW Post 451.
