James T. Jacovetti, 71, CenturyTel Retiree, enjoyed bowling
James T. Jacovetti, 71, of Lorain, died Sunday, July 13, 2003 in the intensive care unit at Community Health Partners Hospital in Lorain after a sudden illness.He was born February 8, 1932 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.
He was a graduate of the Lorain High School Class of 1951A. He served with the US Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Occupation Medal (Germany).
Mr. Jacovetti worked at the former Lorain Telephone Company (CenturyTel) in Lorain for 39 years. He started in the switch room and became a supervisor retiring in 1996.
He was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain, Italian-American Veterans Post #1 of Lorain, a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #451 in Lorain, Knights of Columbus in Lorain and the Independent Telephone Pioneer Association (ITPA). He enjoyed bowling and participated in several leagues in the area.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Shirley (nee Rutkowski), daughter Janet Bodde of Vermilion, sons Joseph Jacovetti, James R. Jacovetti, John Jacovetti, and Joel Jacovetti, all of Lorain, 11 grandchildren, a sister Dolores Sabo of Lorain, brother Richard Jacovetti of Port Charlotte, Florida and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Marie Jacovetti and sister Rosemarie Golobich.
Friends may call Wednesday, July 16, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave.; Lorain where the Italian-American Veterans Post #1 will conduct a memorial service Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 17, 2003 at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by a 10:00 a.m. funeral mass at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 1454 Lexington Ave., Lorain. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery; Lorain where the Italian-American Veterans Post #1 will conduct military honors.
