James Alexander, 88, Welder
James Alexander, 88, of Avon Lake passed away Thursday, July 24, 2003 at his son’s home in Avon Lake following a seven month illness.He was born March 8, 1915 in Glasgow, Scotland and lived most of his life in Lorain. He moved to Avon Lake 3 years ago coming from Palmetto, Florida where he had lived since retirement. He was a graduate of Lorain High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific on the U.S.S. Birmingham. He was employed as a welder for U.S. Steel, Lorain, retiring in the early 1970’s. James was a sports fan and enjoyed gardening, especially growing tomatoes.
Mr. Alexander is survived by two sons, John C. Alexander (Nancy) of Avon Lake, Ted Collis of New Castle, Ontario, Canada and a daughter, Betty Hern of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; five grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Collis Alexander (nee Wood); a daughter, Beverly Stitt; a grandson Murray; his parents, Charles N. and Elizabeth (nee Neil) Alexander; a brother, John Alexander and a sister, Elizabeth Betty Wallace.
Private burial committal services will be held at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. Cremation by Busch Crematory.
