Photo of Arthur E. Karcher Arthur E. Karcher, 82, of Vermilion, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at his home after a lengthy illness.

He was born June 28, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio.

He worked as a terminal manager and sales representative for Commercial Motor Freight Co., Sandusky. He was a graduate of the Ohio State University in 1947, the United Church of Christ Congregational, Vermilion, and AMVETS Post 22, Vermilion. He was a former member of the Vermilion Lions Club, Vermilion Boat Club, Sandusky Traffic Club, and the Vermilion Fish and Game.

He enjoyed his grandchildren, sailing, fishing, reading and making doll houses and doll furniture.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Lou Karcher (nee Vance) of Vermilion; 3 daughters, Nancy Marilyn Mayer of Vermilion, Alice Nadine Reed of Lisle, Illinois, and Heidi Sue Clark of Shelbyville, Kentucky; 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 4 brothers, Don Karcher of Wadsworth, Jack Karcher of Bay Village, Jim Karcher of New Philadelphia, and Dave Karcher of Texas, 5 sisters, Belle Davies of Van, Texas, Joan Riemenschneider of Westlake, Carol Aspery of Dover, Clara Cuthbert of Columbia Station, Nancy Roemar of Dover.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Albert and Mabel (nee Jackson) Karcher, sister Betty Schmidt; and brother, Robert Karcher.

Friends may call Thursday, July 31, 2003, from 6-9 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Services will be held at the Riddle Funeral Home, Friday, August 1, 2003. The Reverend Louis Bertoni, former pastor of the United Church of Christ Congregational, will officiate. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
