Charles A. Piazza, 83, of Avon, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2003 at St. John West Shore Hospital, following a short illness. Mr. Piazza was born, July 28, 1920 in Cleveland and has lived his entire life in Avon.Mr. Piazza began his career as a truck farmer following WWII and then built a green house in 1947. He was owner, florist, and grower at Piazza Floral Green House, Avon until his retirement in 1985. He continued to work part-time until 1991.
He was a 1938 graduate of Avon High School, a WWII Army Air Corp Veteran serving in the European and Pacific Theatres. He was a life member of Holy Trinity Church, Avon, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and served as an Usher and worked on the Bingo Team. He also was a Volunteer at St. John West Shore Hospital for the past 9 years. He enjoyed gardening, country music and visiting others.
Mr. Piazza is survived by his son James C. Piazza (Mary Ellen) of Avon, and daughter Shirley Doss (Bill) of Avon. Other survivors include 4 grandchildren, Tina, Brian, Scott, and Kristen, as well as a brother Leonard Piazza of Avon and sisters Grace Corso of North Fort Myers, Florida and Rose Spondike of Avon. Besides his wife of 50 years, Josephine (nee Sottosanti) he is preceded in death by his parents, Charles A. and Salvatora (nee Campagna) Piazza and brothers Dominic Piazza and August Piazza.
Friends may call at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 32000 Detroit Rd., Avon, Wednesday, August 6, 2003 from 2:00-9:00 p.m. Prayer services will be Thursday, August 7 at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. followed by The Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity Church, 33601 Detroit Rd, Avon at 10:00 a.m. Fr. John Misenko of the Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Jaycox, Rd. Memorials may be forwarded to the charity of the donor's choice.
