Anthony V. Cantu, 55, Enjoyed restoring his 1961 Buick
Anthony V. Cantu, age 55, of Pleasureville, Kentucky, and formerly of Lorain, died Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at the University of Louisville Hospital following a brief illness. He was born March 5, 1948 in Lorain and had been a resident of Kentucky for the past 5 years.Mr. Cantu attended Admiral King High School. He was employed as a laborer with Local #758 of Lorain and had most recently been working on job assignments with the Kokosing and S.E. Johnson Construction Companies. He had formerly been employed in the Rolling Mills of U.S. Steel Corporation's Lorain Works.
He was a former parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Elyria Township.
His hobbies included vegetable gardening and working with automobiles. He was especially interested in the restoration of his classic 1961 Buick leSabre.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association, as well as a member of the Internet chapters of the Buick Club of America and the National Handyman's Club.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Linda (nee McMahan), daughter Andrea L. Cantu of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, son Anthony A. Cantu of Pleasureville, Kentucky, his parents Anthony "Tony" L. and Judy (nee Dongarra) Cantu, grandchildren Vincent, Karely, Felicia, Billy, Toni Marie, and his brother Ralph of Elyria Township, along with three aunts.
He was preceded in death by his aunt and uncle.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 10, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Gaetano Menegatto, representing St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township, officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
