Peter P. Celik, 73, B.F. Goodrich Retiree, enjoyed OSU football

Peter P. Celik, age 73, of Lorain, died Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation following an extended illness. He was born June 2, 1930 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident of the city.

Mr. Celik graduated from Lorain Saint Mary High School with the class of 1948.

He was an U.S. Army Veteran serving with the 7th Infantry Division of the 32nd Infantry Regiment during the Korean Conflict. He was the recipient of the Korean Service with two Bronze Stars.

An active parishioner of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain, he was active in many church activities including service as an altar server and usher. He was also a member of the parish's Holy Name Society as well as the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

He was employed as a chemical operator for the B.F. Goodrich Corporation in Avon Lake; he retired in 1991 following 31 years of service. He had previously been employed by the Home Dairy of Lorain, the Thew Division of Koehring Company, and U.S. Steel.

Mr. Celik was a member of the Erie Shore Button Box Club and was featured as one of the musicians on an album recently produced by that organization. He was a member of the Lorain Slovenian Club whose hobbies included working with computers, woodworking, and sports…especially Ohio State University Football.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Bernadine (nee Turton), sons David of Akron and Steven and Peter T. both of Lorain, daughters Mary Rose Carron of North Olmsted, and Kathleen Redmon of Sheffield Village, 7 grandchildren, one great grandsons, sisters Agnes Serazin of Elyria, Catherine Katiba of Lorain, and Patricia Beetler of Amherst. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Agnes (nee Havalin) Celik.

Visitation will be Friday, August 8, 2003 from 4-8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Lorain where a rosary will be recited by members and officers of the Holy Name Society of Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Church at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by his funeral mass at10: 00 a.m. in Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Church, 1454 Lexington Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Robert Glepko, pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery Lorain.
