Robert Galvin, 72, Ohio Edison retiree

Robert "Larry" Lawrence Galvin, 72 years of age, and a resident of Sheffield Village, formerly of Amherst, passed away Friday, August 8, 2003 at EMH Regional Medical Center, Elyria following a sudden illness.

He was born November 7, 1930 in Cincinnati. He was a resident of Amherst for 41 years prior to moving to Sheffield Village six months ago.

He served in the Naval Reserves from 1949 to 1956. He was employed at Ohio Edison for 43 years, retiring in 1992 from the Metering Department. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Lorain Chapter of the Golden Crescent Chorus for 45 years. Larry was a Little League and Softball Coach and coached all six of his children and was a loyal Browns and Cleveland Indians fan. He loved going to plays, traveling, and enjoyed music and singing and sang with numerous quartets and church choirs over the years.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Raynelle Galvin (nee Augusta), his sons Bob Galvin of Maumee and Kevin Galvin of Findley; his daughters Maureen Ciarrone of Wellington; Mary Kerr of Upper Arlington and Colleen Scott of Hilliard, fourteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren; and one step grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his son Mike Galvin in 2001 and by his parents Robert L. Sr., and June Galvin (nee Reesey).

Friends may call Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Closing prayers will be held Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 a.m. from St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. The Rev. Fr. Lawrence Martello, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society or to a charity of the donor's choice.
