Dorothy A. Broadbent, 80, WWII Navy Veteran

Dorothy A. Boardbent - 80 of Oberlin, formerly of Bay Village, passed away suddenly, Sunday, August 17 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center, Lorain.

Mrs. Broadbent was born February 2, 1923 in Johnstown, Ohio and had lived in Grandville, Newark and Columbus, before moving to Bay Village. She has lived at the Kendal of Oberlin the past 10 years.

Mrs. Broadbent was a WWII Navy Veteran, stationed with the Naval Weather Bureau in Washington D.C. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from The Ohio State University. She was a member of the Delphine Society, a current events discussion group in Cuyahoga Co., a member of Bay Crafters and the West Shore Unitarian Universalist Church. She was an artist, working in watercolors and creating collages. She had an interest in the Zen and enjoyed world travel, visiting various countries with a travel group from Oberlin College.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Howard W. Broadbent. Other survivors include, 2 daughters, Kitty Broadbent of Montclair, NJ and Diane E. Friedman (Marty) of Harrisburg, PA, a son Jack M. Broadbent (Lani) of Grasonville, MD and a grandson, Douglas Friedman.

Friends may call at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 32000 Detroit Rd. Avon for one hour before a 2 p.m. Memorial Service at the funeral home Saturday (8/23). Rev. Arthur Lavorie of the West Shore Unitarian Universalist Church will officiate. Cremation by the Busch Crematory. Interment of the remains will be at a later in Alexandria, Ohio. Memorial may be forwarded to a favorite charity of choice.
