Irene Dziak, 82, Enjoyed crocheting and crafting

Irene Dziak (nee Popovich), age 82, of Lorain, died Sunday August 17, 2003 at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation following a brief illness.

Mrs. Dziak was born April 7, 1920 in Elyria, Ohio and had been a resident of Lorain since 1940; she was a 1939 graduate of Clearview High School.

She was employed as a secretary for the Lorain School System where she served at Washington Avenue Elementary School from 1969 to 1981. She had formerly been employed as a legal secretary for the law offices of Attorneys Provenza, Friedman, Cirigliano and Zieba. She had previously worked as a school bus driver for the Sheffield/Sheffield Lake City Schools.

She was a parishioner of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain as well as a member of the Lorain City Schools Credit Union.

Her hobbies included traveling, crocheting and crafting.

Survivors include her son: Richard D. Dziak of Avon and a daughter: Kathleen Federico of Sheffield Lake, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband: Charles in 1992, by her parents: Peter and Anna (nee Dancik) Popovich, sister: Mary Maticic, and a brother: Peter Popovich.

Visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway - Lorain. A funeral mass will follow in the Catholic Church of St. Peter - 3501 Oberlin Avenue in Lorain with the Reverend David Woost, associate pastor of the church officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery - Lorain.

The family requests memorial contributions in her name to the organ restoration fund in care of the Church of St. Peter - 3501 Oberlin Avenue - Lorain, Ohio 44053.
