Irene P. Popov, 83, Enjoyed golf and performing arts
Irene P. Popov (nee Phillips), 83, of Lorain, died Sunday August 17, 2003 at the Hearthstone at Lorain after a long illness.She was born May 15, 1920 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain County resident. She was a 1938 graduate of Lorain High School.
Mrs. Popov was a certified public accountant and owner of the I.P. Popov Accounting Company in Vermilion from 1943 to 1978.
She taught accounting courses at Lorain Business College from 1940 to 1942. She was listed in the 1961 edition of Who's Who in Ohio, in the 1968 edition of Ohio Lives and the 1977 & 1978 edition of Who's Who of American Women.
Mrs. Popov enjoyed golfing and had recorded 4 hole-in-ones. She enjoyed reading, walking, traveling and the performing arts.
She is survived by her sister Yola Rosza and brother Sidney Phillips, both of Lorain. She was preceded in death by her husband Peter Popov in 1986, brother Steven Phillips and sister Margaret Nieding.
Private family services were held Wednesday. Sister Pat Adams, chaplain of New Life Hospice, officiated. Burial was in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain.
