Raymond M. Amsden, 76, Honor Guard at General Patton's Funeral

Raymond M. Amsden, 76, of Avon Lake, formerly of Parma, passed away, Sunday, August 17, 2003 of heart failure. Mr. Amsden was born, December 8, 1926 in Warren and has lived in Avon Lake since 1958.

Mr. Amsden was Personnel Manager and Warehouse Superintendent with Burrow Brothers Inc., office supply stores in the Cleveland are, for 28 years. He was a World War II Army Veteran, serving with the 504th Military Police Battalion. During his service he served as an Honor Guard at General George Patton's Funeral. Mr. Amsden was a graduate of East Liverpool, Ohio High School, where he played football. He attended Miami University, Oxford, Ohio.

Mr. Amsden was a member of Avon Lake Presbyterian Church, where he had at one time served as a deacon. He was a member of American Legion Post 211, Avon Lake. He was a member of the US Army Boxing team while in the service. He had a love of antique and WWII Vintage aviation. He was an avid reader of military and US History.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Peg (nee Coleman). Other survivors include 3 sons, Scott Amsden of Lorain, Mark Amsden (Lynne) and Matt Amsden (Jody) both of Avon Lake, 7 grandchildren: Lance, Cassandra, Brian, Jenna, Christina, Angel, and Jessica, and one great granddaughter, Isabella. He is preceded in death by a brother Robert H. Amsden and his parents Gilbert and Roselma (nee McCracken) Amsden.

Friends may call at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 163 Avon-Belden Road, Avon Lake, Wednesday, August 20, 2003 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 21, 2003 at Avon Lake Presbyterian Church, 32340 Electric Blvd., Avon Lake at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Thomas C. Robinson of the church will officiate. Interment will follow in Elmhurst Park Cemetery, Avon. Memorials may be forwarded to the church.
