Donald Staley, 70, Air Force Veteran

Donald Staley, age 70, of Lorain, died on Monday, August 18, 2003 at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Born on November 3, 1932 in Lorain, he has lived here most of his life. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Donald earned the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was employed at Ford Motor Plant in Avon Lake for 34 years, retiring in 1996 as a cycle checker. Donald was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post #1662, Amherst and the Local Union #2000 of Sheffield.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years: Nora, son: Michael Staley of Lorain, daughters: Linda Hamilton, Chris Winkler and Patty Bailey, all of Lorain, 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, brothers: Billy Gerber, of Lorain and Leroy Gerber of New Jersey and sister: Betty McClain, of Decateur, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents: Harvey and Effie (nee Conn) Staley, sister: Doris Gridley and son-in-law: Gary Hamilton.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Rev. Aaron Webb, pastor of Beacon Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp. Amherst Veterans Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.
