Frank P. Kurtis, 86, Army soldier, enjoyed the racetrack

Frank P. Kurtis, 86, of Avon died Monday, August 18, 2003 in Avon Oaks Nursing Home, Avon, following a brief illness.

He was born March 13, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois. Before moving to Avon he lived in Laurel, Maryland for 35 years.

Mr. Kurtis was a career Army soldier. He enlisted in 1940 and served with the 712 Tank Battalion in World War II in France and the invasion of Germany. He remained there during the occupation. He went on to serve in many locations around the world. He also had a tour of duty in Vietnam. He retired from the military as a Sergeant 1st Class E-7 in 1967.

He enjoyed gardening and going to the racetrack. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Baltimore Orioles fan.

Among the survivors are his Nephews, Nieces and Cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years Ida K. Kurtis (nee Kohler) in May of this year; his parents Stanley and Stella (nee Wozniewska) Kurtis and a sister Sophie M. Richter.

Friends may call Thursday, August 21, 2003 from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at 10:00 a.m. in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st street, South Lorain. The Reverend, C. Thomas Cleaton, pastor of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Avon will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
