Leo L. Butcher, 79, WWII Veteran, enjoyed gardening

Leo L. Butcher, age 79, of Sheffield Township, died Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.

Born on June 27, 1924 in Weston, West Virginia, Mr. Butcher had lived in Lorain for the past 56 years, coming from Weston.

During World War II, he had served in the U.S. Army and had received the World War II Victory Medal and the Occupation Japan Medal. He had worked at Lorain Works U.S. Steel as a millwright for 23 years. He was a member of United Steel Worker's Union Local #1104 of Lorain. He enjoyed gardening.

He is survived by 3 daughters, Roxanna L. Butcher of Elyria, Ethel "Dolly" Justice of Sheffield Township, and Cindy S. Moore of Calmia, Florida, 4 sons: Leo L. Butcher, Jr., of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Jamie L. Butcher of Burnsville, West Virginia, Clarence L. Butcher of Vermilion and John F. Butcher of Lorain, 16 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, two brothers, Archie Butcher and Ted Butcher, both of Weston, West Virginia, two sisters, Denellia Laughery and Agnes Sholes, both of Weston, West Virginia, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Elsie H. (nee Erler) in 1991, one daughter Bessie D. Butcher, four brothers: Robert, Cleo, Mark, and Samuel.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 23, 2003 from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 6:00 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Burial in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon, will be private.
