Raymond J. Wick, 83, World War II U.S. Army Veteran

Raymond J. Wick, 83 of Lorain, died Tuesday August 19, 2003 at Community Health Partners Hospital in Lorain after a short illness.

He was born September 16, 1919 in Lorain and had been a lifelong area resident. He was a graduate of Lorain High School class of 1938A.

Mr. Wick served with the US Army during World War II as a corporal in the 30th Infantry Division and saw action in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe and the Ardennes.

He worked at US Steel in Lorain for 37 � years retiring in 1981.

He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain, the church Senior Sociables and the Golden Age Pensioners. He was a life member of Lorain Liedertafel, a member of the Grand Lodge of Ohio O.D.H.S. and a life member of VFW Post #451 in Lorain.

He is survived by his grandchildren Jack Loercher and Theresa Loercher, both of Baltimore, Maryland and nephew Carl M. Roman of Greenville, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his wife Florence M. Wick in 1967, second wife Paul M. Wick in 1997, daughter Christine K. Wick, sister Anna Roman and brother Carl Wick.

The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. A funeral mass will follow Friday at11: 30 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave. Lorain. The Rev. Joseph West, OFM Conv., pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, where VFW #451 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
