Burleen Griffith, 72, Amherst Resident since 1957

Burleen Griffith (nee Honeycutt), 72 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at New Life Hospice Residential Center, Lorain, following a sudden illness.

She was born February 26, 1931 in Slimp, Kentucky and was raised in Tennessee. She had made Amherst her home since 1957.

She was employed at Golden Acres Nursing Home for 32 years, retiring in 1995 as a nurse aid. Burleen was a member of North Lake Missionary Baptist Church in South Amherst.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years Arnold Griffith; her sons Claude Griffith of Gainesville, Georgia and David Arnold Griffith of Soel, South Korea; her daughters Elizabeth Moran of Eugene, Oregon and Mary Lou Ellis of Oneida, Tennessee; four grandchildren; her brothers Chester Honeycutt and Arthur Honeycutt, both of Robbins, Tennessee; Lester Honeycutt of Amherst, and Edgar Honeycutt of Oneida, Tennessee; and her sisters Ethel Goad of Oneida, Tennessee, Lillian Hamby of Robbins, Tennessee, Vivian Troxtell of Helenwood, Tennessee, and Kathleen Golden of Wakeman.

She was preceded in death by her parents Rev. George and Louisa Jane Honeycutt (nee Jones) and by her sister Irene Honeycutt.

Friends may call Friday from 6-9 p.m. at the Hemple Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Carson Fraley, pastor of North Lake Missionary Baptist Church, South Amherst, will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
