Millard Sturgill Jr., 80, WWII Veteran, avid bowler
Millard Sturgill, Jr., 80, of Lorain, Ohio, died Wednesday, August 20, 2003 in Grace Hospital, Amherst, Ohio following a lengthy illness.He was born July 9, 1923 in Barnettes Creek, Kentucky and has been a Lorain resident for 52 years.
He worked as a painter for 30 years at the former American Ship Building Company.
Mr. Sturgill was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. He enjoyed bowling and was on many leagues at Rebman's, Broadway Lanes, and Shoreway Lanes.
Survivors include his sons Eddy of West Palm Beach, Florida, John of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, and Bill Sturgill of Lorain, Ohio, daughters Peggy Keppler of Lorain, and Judy Fergeson of Lakewood, Ohio, 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents Millard F. and Elizabeth (Salyers) Sturgill, Sr., brothers Edgar, Arzie, Walter, Clifford, Curtis, Wayne Sturgill, and sisters Virgie Reynolds, Zella Cassady, Ethel Sturgill, Sarah Rhodes, Geneva Castle, Margie Robins, and Loucinia Slusher.
Friends may call Friday, August 22, 2003 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Dombrowski-Volak-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain where services will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst Township.
