Edward Winiasz, 85, IDS Founder

Photo of Edward Winiasz Edward "Abe" Winiasz, age 85, of Lorain, died Thursday, August 21, 2003 in Community Health Partners following a short illness.

He was born on August 26, 1917 in Lorain, Ohio and was a lifelong resident. Mr. Winiasz was a graduate of Lorain High School and attended Ohio State University.

He worked as an engineer for the Thew Shovel in Lorain until 1954. At that time, he founded IDS (Industrial Design Studio) now known as ADI (Advanced Design Industries). He retired in 1988.

He was a member of the St. Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church. He enjoyed musical instruments especially the guitar and banjo. He also enjoyed reading and writing poetry and woodworking.

Survivors include sons, Michael of Lorain, Jerry of Amherst and Thomas Winiasz of Vermilion and 6 grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Ethel (nee Nath) in 1995, parents John and Sophie (nee Livitska) Winiasz and brother Michael.

Friends may call Sunday, August 24, 2003 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Dombrowski-Volak-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, where the funeral service will be on Monday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Vasiliy Shtelen, pastor of St. Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church will officiate.

Interment will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst.
