Herman Reinhardt Richter, 85, World War II Army Veteran

Herman Reinhardt Richter, 85 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2003 at Community Health Partners H & S Center, Lorain following a two-year illness.

Born June 15, 1918 in Clinton, Massachusetts, he was raised and lived his entire life in Lorain.

He served in the US Army during World War II in the European and Pacific Theaters where he receive the American Defense Ribbon; the American Theater Ribbon; the European African Middle Eastern Ribbon with one bronze star, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with one bronze star; and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon. He was employed for B.F. Goodrich, Avon Lake, for 25 years, retiring in 1980 as a chemical operator. Herman was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lorain.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years Lillian Leurette Richter (nee St. George); his son James A. Richter of Lorain; his daughters Janice Thayer of Mexico, Suzanne McGlugritch and Kathleen Strohsack, both of South Amherst; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a half-sister Elsie Vangeloff of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his son Richard Richter in 1980; by his infant daughter Joann in 1960; and by his parents Frederick and Christine Richter (nee Wagner).

Friends may call Sunday from 6-9 p.m. at the Hemple Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services with the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard performing honors will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Roy McGlugritch, pastor of Apostle's Doctrine Church in Lorain, will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
