Alice M. Ruggles, 88, Enjoyed cake decorating and embroidery
Alice M. Ruggles, 88, of Vermilion, died Thursday, September 11, 2003 in Ohio Extended Care Center, Lorain, after a lengthy illness.She was born May 17, 1915 in Milan, Ohio and had been a Vermilion resident since 1975 moving from Mount Vernon, Ohio, where she lived for 13 years.
She worked as a professional cake decorator for Meek's Bakery in Norwalk in the late 1950's, at Max's Bakery in Shelby, Ohio in the early 1960's, and Melberges Bakery in Mount Vernon, Ohio until 1974 and delivered papers for the Journal. She was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational, Vermilion, a 65-year member of the Lyme Grange, Bellevue, #2027, a life member of the Pomona Grange. She enjoyed gardening, embroidery, needle point and cake decorator.
Survivors include a daughter, Evelyn McKenzie of South Carolina, five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Otto and Theresa (nee Stein) Braunhardt, husband, Lee Ruggles in 1974, sisters Lillian Deal in 1972 and Bernice Ohlemacher, brother Henry Braunhardt, and a daughter Joan Fitzpatrick.
A graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Monroeville on Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Guy Morton, pastor of Lakeview Baptist Church, will officiate.
Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio is handling arrangements.
