Charles A. Martin, 78, Enjoyed Dalmations

Charles A. Martin, age 78, of Vermilion, died on Thursday, September 11, 2003 in the emergency room at Community Health Partners Hospital, West, following a sudden illness.

He was born on September 12, 1924 in Hinton, West Virginia. He came to Lorain County at an early age then moved to Vermilion in 1991.

Charles was employed as a janitor at Elyria High School until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of the Toledo Road Church of Christ.

He enjoyed pets, especially Dalmatians.

He is survived by his stepdaughter, Shirley Lawther of Lorain, nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren, and three sisters: Edith Williams, Leathia Bowles, and Charlene Adkins, all of Hinton, West Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Nannie (nee Harrah) Martin, his first wife Margie, and second wife of 19 years Doris M. (nee Hill) Martin on November 8, 2000, step sons Richard and Steven Baker, and two sisters, Myrtle Smith and Sarah Dorothy Grimett and two brothers Johnny and Leslie Martin.

The family will receive friends on Monday, September 15, 2003 from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday, September 16, 2003 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, Ohio. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
