Robert J. Walbom, 74, US Marine, active in many local clubs

Photo of Robert J. Walbom Robert J. Walbom, of Avon Lake, died Thursday, September 11, 2003 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph. He was born November 29, 1929 in Lorain where he resided for 48 years, and currently of Avon Lake where he resided the past 26 years.

Bob was a Vice-President of the Central Trust Bank where he served as Branch Manager of the Avon Bank. Bob had served as a Corporal in the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He had been a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church of Lorain and was attending the Calvary Baptist Church of Avon Lake. He was a 1948 graduate of Lorain High School and attended the Oberlin School of Commerce. He had served as Treasurer of the Ambassadors Club of the Lorain Chamber of Commerce, a member of the former Lorain Exchange Club, a Junior Achievement Adviser, Treasurer of the Shoreway Merchants Association, Treasurer of the Sheffield Lake Community Civic Center and a member of the Avon-Avon Lake Kiwanis Club and a member of The Dinner Club.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years Beverly (nee Rowley) his son David of Perrysburg, brothers: Gene of Lorain, Ronald of Berlin Heights, William of Vermilion and sister Karen Minnich of Avon Lake, and four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents Herman and Dulcie (nee Thomas) Walbom.

Visitation will be Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 5th Street, Lorain. Memorial Services will be Sunday September 21, 2003 in the Calvary Baptist Church, Avon Lake at a time to be announced. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church 32607 Electric Blvd, Avon Lake, Juvenile Diabetes Association or the Taussig Cancer Center at the Cleveland Clinic.
