Angie Lee Hammond, 91, Enjoyed reading, quilting, and traveling

Angie Lee Hammond, (nee Cowan), 91 years of age, and a resident of Amherst passed away September 14, 2003 at Kingstone of Vermilion Nursing Home, following a lengthy illness.

She was born August 28, 1912 in Kidder, Kentucky, where she was raided and lived until moving to the Amherst area 61 years ago.

Angie was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church in Bronston, Kentucky and locally had been attending the Family Fellowship Foursquare Church. She belonged to the Stoninton Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Amherst Retired Employee’s of May Company Sheffield Center. She enjoyed reading, quilting, and traveling.

Survivors include her sons, Glenn R. Hammond of Brookville, Pennsylvania, and Curtis A. Hammond of Amherst, daughters M. Bernice Wyvill of Amherst and Doris L. Loewen of Mountain Home, Idaho, 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and a sister Lura Casada of Burnside, Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by her husband Olen R. Hammond, March 25, 1996 after sixty four years of marriage, sisters Maudie J. Stephens and Ellen Troxtell, and parents Leonard Cowan and Molly (nee Dick).

Friends may call Tuesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held at Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. James Loewen will officiate. Interment will be at the Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
