Robert S. Scrofano, 43, Enjoyed basketball, active in St. Peter's PTO

Photo of Robert S. Scrofano Robert S. Scrofano, age 43, of Amherst, died unexpectedly Monday, September 15, 2003 after suffering an apparent heart attack. He was born January 13, 1960 in Lorain, and had been a resident of Amherst for the past three and a half years, coming from Lorain.

Mr. Scrofano was a 1979 graduate of Lorain Catholic High School where he was three-time letterman on the Spartan varsity basketball team. He thoroughly enjoyed the game of basketball and went on to serve as a CYO coach at St. Peter Parish School. He also participated in the Thursday Night Adult Basketball League hosted by St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.

A parishioner of the Catholic Church of St. Peter, Bob was active in numerous fund-raising activities to benefit the St. Peter PTO.

For the past twenty-five years he was employed by the Lorain Glass Company where he currently served as a field superintendent.

Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Athena (nee James), daughters Tealla and Julia both at home, his mother Carmella (nee Galofaro) Scrofano of Lorain, brothers, Sal of Cincinnati and Joseph of Las Angeles, California, and sisters, Donna Giedlinski of Orlando, Florida and Frances Zavarella of Solon, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Giovanni in 1965.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 18, 2003 from 3-8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Friday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by his funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. The Reverend Kenneth Wolnowski, pastor of the parish, will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Resurrection Mausoleum of Calvary Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials in his name to the Scrofano College Trust for the benefit of his daughters in care of the main branch of First Federal Savings of Lorain, 3721 Oberlin Ave., Lorain, Ohio 44053.
