George V. Greenoe, 90, Enjoyed golfing, fishing, and bowling

George V. Greenoe, age 90, of Sheffield Village, died September 17, 2003 at Kingston of Vermilion Nursing Home following an extended illness.

Born, April 21, 1913 in Brownhelm, Ohio he was a resident of Sheffield Village for four years, moving from Sheffield Lake, where he resided for over 50 years.

Mr. Greenoe worked for the Civilian Conservation Corp. during the Depression. He was employed at the former United States Steel Corp. in Lorain in the Railroad Division for six years prior to it becoming the Lake Terminal Railroad, where he then worked an additional 38 years.

He was a member of the United Transportation Union. He participated in a 75 and over baseball league in Florida as a pitcher. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, and spending time with his family and friends. He and his late wife enjoyed their home in Sheffield Village.

He is survived by sons: Dennis K. Davis of Middleburg Heights, Gary G. Greenoe of Elyria, and Randy B. Greenoe of Amherst, daughters: Linda K. Urig of Collins, Ohio, Sandra J. Dalzell, and Fern E. Bailey, both of Amherst, Gail L. Parker of S. Beloit, IL, and Kimberly S. McCray of Sheffield, 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. (nee Stutt-Murphy) on March 23, 2002, son Richard A. Greenoe, parents Frederick L. and Mary Elizabeth (nee Heckman) Greenoe, brothers Robert Zernikow, John Greenoe, Ward Greenoe, and Thurman Greenoe, and his sister Edith Williams.

There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. in the Elmwood Cemetery, 640 North Ridge Road, Lorain. Reverend Douglas R. Yost, pastor of the Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church of Vermilion, will officiate.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, Lorain.
