Charles A. Anderson Jr., 82, Decorated War Veteran

Charles “Chuck” A. Anderson, Jr., age 82, of Avon Lake, Ohio passed away Friday, September 19, 2003 in the Good Samaritan Skilled Nursing Center, Avon after a lengthy illness.

He was born May 1, 1921 in Cleveland and moved to Avon Lake in 1967. He was a 1939 graduate of West Tech High School, Cleveland and served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army during World War II from 1942-1946. He was involved in the battle of Normandy in the 83rd Division, 329th Infantry Regiment and received the American Theater Ribbon, E.A.M.E. Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Ribbon, Purple Heart and Victory Medal.

Mr. Anderson was employed as a Postal Clerk for the Fairview Post Office, retiring in 1980 after 33 years. Chuck was a member of the Avon Lake United Church of Christ and the American Legion Post 211, Avon Lake. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, and was an avid Cleveland sports fan.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Emma Anderson (nee Salata), a son Neil Anderson (Dorothy) of Dallas, Texas, a step daughter Karen A. Oline of Avon Lake, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren, and his fraternal twin brother, John Anderson of Eustis, Florida. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marian (1964) and his parents, Charles Alfred and Grace Stella (nee Hoffman) Anderson.

Friends may call at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 163 Avon –Belden Road, Avon Lake from 1-4 a.m. and 7-9 p.m., Monday, where the American Legion Post 211 will conduct services at 8:00 p.m. All services will be Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at the Avon Lake United Church of Christ, 32801 Electric Blvd., at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Kelly Boyte Peters will officiate. Burial will follow at Elmhurst Park Cemetery, Avon, where V.F.W. Post 9871, North Ridgeville, will conduct military honors. Memorials may be forwarded to New Life Hospice, 5255 N. Abbe Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035-1450.
