Yolanda Akosi, 77, Homemaker, cook at St. John's Church rectory
Yolanda Akosi (nee Turton), 77 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at Specialty Hospital of Lorain following a brief illness.She was born July 6, 1926 in Lorain where she has been a longtime resident.
In addition to being a homemaker and mother, Yolanda cooked for the rectory of St. John Catholic Church in Lorain for 13 years and also for the rectory of Nativity Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain for a short time. She was a former member of ST. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lorain where she served as Eucharist minister. She was currently a member of Nativity Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain.
Survivors include her son Joseph J. Akosi, Jr., of Lorain, her daughters Linda Nehls of Sheffield Lake, Denise Shildwachter of Elyria, Cynthia Brickner and Jennifer Sennhem, both of Lorain, ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren, her sisters Bernadine Celik of Lorain and Monica Klocek of Mead, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents Steve Turton in 1991 and Hattie Turton (nee Myslinski) in 1981 and by her brother William S. Turton on July 29, 1992.
Friends may call Friday from 5-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Closing prayers will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian burial to follow at 10:00 a.m. at Nativity Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 1440 West 15th, Street, Lorain. The Rev. Father Robert Glepko, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Nativity Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 1440 West 15th, Street, Lorain.
