Roger Rogers, 75, Enjoyed travel, golf, and animals
Roger L. Rogers, 75, a life long resident of Avon Lake, passed away at his home Wednesday, September 24, following a brief illness. Mr. Rogers was born October 31, 1927 in Lorain. He had worked in the Maintenance Department of BF Goodrich Chemical in Avon Lake, retiring in 1989 after 33 years of service.Mr. Rogers was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving from 1945-1948 in the American and Asian-Pacific Theaters as a deep-sea diver and on an ocean going tug boat. He receives his diver’s training from the Diving School at Pearl Harbor. He was a member of Avon Lake United Church of Christ and a member of the National Association of Fleet Tug Sailors. He enjoyed animals, travel, bowling and golf.
Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife of 49 years, Shirley B. (Beetler) whom he married, September 18, 1954. Other survivors include sons, David Rogers and Mark Rogers, both of Avon Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Irene Marie (nee Hinderer) Rogers and a brother Paul D. Rogers.
Friends may call the Busch-Burmeister Chapel, 163 Avon-Beldon rd., Avon Lake from 2-6 p.m. Sunday. All service will be held at the Funeral Home, Monday, September 29 at 11 a.m. Rev. Kelly Peters of the Avon Lake United Church of Christ will officiate. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memory Garden.
