Gene Donahoo, 73, Enjoyed square dancing, bowling, and traveling

Gene Donahoo, 73 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at New Life Hospice Residential Center, Lorain, following a nine-month illness.

He was born December 11, 1929 in Marianna, Pennsylvania where he lived till moving to the Amherst area in 1960.

He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict in the 35th infantry with the 25th Division as a sergeant. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, the Occupational Medal with five bronze stars, and the Marksmanship Badge and was relied upon as a sharp shooter by the division. He was employed at the Lorain Assembly Plant of Ford Motor Corp. for 30 years retiring in 1989 as an inspector.

He has been a member of Faith Baptist Church since 1964 and Firelands FADS, a square dancing club. He enjoyed traveling across America visiting 49 states, square dancing with his wife, bowling, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Joetta Jane (nee: Wood) Donahoo; his sons Barry G. Donahoo of Wellington, Alan R. Donahoo of Boulder City, Nevada, and Wade C. Donahoo of New London, his daughters Kathy J. Beckett of Amherst and Peggy Roblin of Seven Hills; ten grandchildren, his brother John Donahoo of Washington, Pennsylvania, and his sister Aileen Householder of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents William and Carrie Harvey (nee Salisbury), his brothers Loren, Bob, Harold, and Donald Donahoo, and by his sister Mo Griffith.

Friends may call Friday from 204 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funereal Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services with military honors by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Michael Plog, pastor of Faith Baptists Church, Amherst, will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
