Vivian T. Jantz, 89, Florist, received the Woman of the Year Award

Vivian T. Jantz (nee Wheeler), age 89, of Grafton passed away Sunday, October 12, 2003 at Elyria Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

She was born February 21, 1914 in LaGrange and had lived her entire life in the LaGrange and Grafton areas. She was the last member of the original pioneer Wheeler family that settled on Wheeler Road in LaGrange in the early 1800's.

A graduate of LaGrange High School, she attended the Elyria Business College and Hixon's School of Floral Design. Mrs. Jantz was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Grafton and a member of the Ladies Aid Society, the Lutheran Women's Missionary Society and editor of the Trinity monthly newsletter. Vivian and her late husband Harry owned and operated Har-Vi's Restaurant in Grafton for several years. She was a past president of the Grafton PTA, a charter member of the Mother's Club, past president and treasurer of the Lorain County Florists Association. She was also a charter member of The Elyria Business Women's Association and former Woman of the Year. She received her floral training at Resar Florist and later became manager/designer of Carek Florist in Elyria. After retirement, she volunteered for the RSVP Program and has been a volunteer with the Red Cross since 1977 and secretary for the Sunshine Club for 20 years.

She enjoyed traveling and Western Square Dancing. She also enjoyed music, piano and the organ. She enjoyed sending cards to friends, relatives and over 125 nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her son Harry Jantz II of Sullivan, Ohio, Daughter Karely Fullmer of Ashland, Ohio and a foster daughter Janet Martin of Ashland. Survivors also include 3 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harry in 1999, grandson Robert Fullmer in 2002, brothers Vernon, Wayne and Gordon, sisters Gladys, Helen and Thelma. Two infant grandchildren Linda and Buddy Jantz also preceded her in death.

Friends may call in the Blackburn Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the Trinity Lutheran Church, 38307 West Royalton Rd., Grafton with Pastor John Castellani officiating. Burial will be in Butternut Ridge Cemetery, Eaton Township.
