He also taught at the University of Tampa and Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. He served one term as President of the Political Science Association in Illinois. He and his wife moved to Carlisle, Pennsylvania in 1991 where he, as a full professor, focused on policymaking, using his expertise as a Latin Americanist. Honest, dedicated to his research, a world traveler, his contributions will long be remembered in the professional scholarly community, where his influence was substantial.

He was a practitioner instrumental in U.S. policymaking at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. As a Cleveland State University Professor, Dr. Schulz taught courses in foreign policy and national security. He was the Department Chair of the Political Science Department, giving of his time and energy; he was a fair and decent man who focused on being constructive.

One way he influenced the world was to brief senior military and diplomatic officers. His specialization in Honduras was augmented by a book he and his wife Deborah Sundloff-Shulz, co-authored, The United States, Honduras and the Crisis in Central America. Their book is a thorough history of Honduran political, social and economic systems. Dr. Schulz published a great number of articles in professional/academic journals. He published many studies for the U.S. Army think tank. His ability to communicate in writing was especially useful with people in government. His interesting lectures instructed scholars, students, and educators who loved to read what he had to write. The scholarly community along with his family and fries will miss Dr. Schulz.

Dr. Schulz leaves behind his wife and her family, a brother Hugh Williams of Hagerstown, Maryland and extended family.
