Petra Contreras, 70, Hobbies included gardening, cooking, and travel

Petra Contreras (nee Figueroa), age 70, of Lorain, died Sunday, October 19, 2003 at the Ohio Extended Care Center following an extended illness.

Mrs. Contreras was born November 11, 1932 in Barcelonata, Puerto Rico and had been a resident of Lorain since 1958; she had previously resided in Buffalo, New York.

A parishioner of Sacred Heart Chapel, she served as a volunteer for a number of years at Saint Nicholas Academy. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, and travel.

Petra is survived by her husband of 50 years, Pedro, daughters Milagros Davila of Cleveland and Marie Deshuk of Lorain, sons Michael of Las Vegas, Nevada and Peter of Lorain, eleven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, sisters Rosin Figueroa and Carmen Figueroa both residing in Puerto Rico, and brothers: Salvador, Jorge, David, and Ramon Figueroa, and Juan Maysonet all of Puerto Rico.

She was preceded in death by her parents Custodio and Catalina (nee Negron) Figueroa, and brothers Miguel and Nolberto Figueroa.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 21, 2003 from 4-8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday beginning at 8:15 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of funeral mass at 9:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend William Thaden, pastor of Sacred Heart Chapel will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
