Daniel Rockas, 80, Enjoyed fishing and being active in the community
Daniel Rockas, 80, of Avon Lake, formerly of Duquesne, PA, passed away, Monday, October 20, 2003 at Avon Oaks Nursing Home, following a short illness.Mr. Rockas was born August 26, 1923 in Duquesne, PA and had lived in Avon Lake for over 60 years. He was a graduate of Avon High School.
Mr. Rockas worked at CEI, Avon Lake as a boiler operator for 41 years retiring in December of 1986. He was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he was actively involved in many aspects of the church including serving on church council. He was a member of Avon Lake Boat Club and served as a union steward at CEI. He enjoyed fishing and being active in the community.
He is survived by his wife Jeannine (nee Berry), who he married September 12, 1947. Other survivors include his son Daniel C. Rockas (Kathleen) of Avon Lake, daughter Dawn D. Rockas of San Diego. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Rochelle, Gina and Dominic, brothers, George Rockas of Avon Lake, Pete Rockas of Amherst and sisters, Mary Able, Mildred Waitt and Anna Holomuzki, all of Avon Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents, Despot and Mary (nee Rusnak) Rockas, brothers: John, Michael, Stephen, and Nicholas Rockas, and sister Sylvia Pace.
Friends may call at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 163 Avon-Belden Road, Avon Lake, Thursday, October 23, 2003 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 32747 Lake Road, Avon Lake, Friday, October 24 at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Lynne Schlessman of the church will officiate. Interment will follow in Elmhurst Park Cemetery, Avon. Memorials may be forwarded to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church.
