Robert M. Coleman, 83, World War II Veteran

Robert M. Coleman, 83, of Lorain died Thursday, October 23, 2003 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home in Lorain following a lengthy illness.

He was born July 7, 1920 in Lorain and was a life-long resident.

Mr. Coleman served with the US Army during World War II as a sergeant. He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal.

He worked at US Steel in Lorain as a general foreman, retiring in 1976 after 38 years. Mr. Coleman was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lorain where he served as treasurer of the church for many years. He was a member and past president of Senior Fellowship of Lorain and a member and past president of the US Steel Management Club. He enjoyed golf, woodworking, and stamp collecting.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Charlotte A. Coleman (nee Falk); daughter Sandra L. Beatty of Flanders, NJ; son Mark R. Coleman of Indianapolis, Indiana; 5 grandchildren; and a sister Nancy Mittendorf of Amherst.

He was preceded in death by his son, Craig A. Coleman; parents, Ralph and Marie (nee Deutschlander) Coleman; brother, John Coleman; and sisters, Shirley Jones and Betty O’Keefe.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 3-6 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 5100 Ashland Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Wayne Decker will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township with military honors by the disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of Lorain.
