Verna H. Martin, 79, Ardent Baseball Fan

Verna H. Martin (nee Katrinchak), 79, of Lorain, died Thursday, October 23, 2003 at Autumn Aegis Care Center following an extended illness.

Mrs. Martin was born March 12, 1924 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident of the city.

A parishioner of Michael Byzantine Rite Catholic Church in Lorain, she had been employed in the maintenance services department at the Lorain County Administration Building in Elyria, retiring in 1982. She was an ardent baseball fan who also served many years as a volunteer with the American Cancer Society.

She is survived by her daughters: Nancy Bentley and Phyllis Csincsak both of Lorain; son Alan of LaGrange; 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; a sister Irene Katrinchak of Lorain; and a brother Michael Katrinchak of Pueblo, CO.

She was preceded in death by her husband James A. Martin; parents, Alex and Elizabeth (nee Donat) Katrinchak; sisters: Betty Hearson, and Mary Mezenski; and brothers: Alex and John.

Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, in Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Kenneth Wolonowski, pastor of the Catholic Church of St. Peter officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
