Virginia Ann McCann, 76, of North Ridgeville, formerly of Marietta, OH, passed away Friday, October 24, 2003 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, of complications of cancer.Mrs. McCann was born September 4, 1927 in Marietta and had lived for a time in Westlake, returning to Marietta before moving to North Ridgeville where she had lived the past 4 years.
She was a 1946 graduate of Marietta Senior High School. She was primarily a homemaker, but had worked as a secretary for State Farm Insurance, Rocky River. She was a member of the Mother’s Club in North Ridgeville and the Grief Support Group of St. Peters Church, North Ridgeville. She was described by her family as a good cook. She also enjoyed collecting antiques, needlepoint, knitting, travel, camping, and canoeing.
Mrs. McCann is survived by her husband, A. Robert McCann; 3 sons: A. Howard Smith (Holly dec.) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, David W. Smith (Sharon) of Brooklyn, Ohio, and Frank D. Smith of Aspen, CO; daughter, Julie Ann Mueller (Peter) of Klamath Falls, OR; 2 brothers: Dave and Dick McKenna; and a sister Sally Voll all of Marietta, OH; and 5 grandchildren: Kelly Gatlin, Heather Phillips, Shawn Pasarris, Nathan Smith, and Emily Smith.
She is preceded in death by her first husband of 48 years, James F. Smith (1999); a brother, Jack McKenna; and her parents, Clarence and Edna (nee Young) McKenna.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 1, at the Avon Lake United Church of Christ, 32801 Electric Blvd., Avon Lake, at 12:30 p.m. Rev. Kelly Peters of the church will officiate. Entombment will be private in Elmhurst Park Cemetery, Avon. Memorials may be forwarded to the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, 3700 Kolbe Rd., Lorain, 44053. Arrangements are by the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, Avon Lake.
