Helena Vanca, 86, Hobbies included cooking and current events

Helena Vanca, age 86, of Lorain, died Tuesday, October 28, 2003 at Golden acres Nursing Home following an extended illness. She was born March 31, 1917 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident of the city.

Miss Vanca was a parishioner of Saint Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church in Lorain; she was also a member of the Greek Catholic Union Lodge #125.

Helena was employed for eight years as an inspector for the Stanadyne Corporation of Elyria (formerly known as Western Automatic).

Her hobbies included cooking and reading with her favorite subject matter being that of current events.

She is survived by a sister-in-law Mary Vanca with whom she made her home along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Anna (nee Barba) Vanca, sister Anna Janosik and brothers: John, Michael, and Andrew.

Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 p.m. until time of services at 2:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. The Reverend Nicholas Rachford, pastor of Saint Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

The family suggests memorials in her memory to the Saint Nicholas Church Building Fund 2711 West 40th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44053.
