Edward Barnes, 80, One of the founders of Amherst Metal Products

Photo of Edward Barnes Edward “Art” Arthur Barnes, age 80, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, October 29, 2003 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky following a lengthy illness.

He was born on January 6, 1923 in Elyria where he lived until moving to Vermilion in 1979.

He was one of the founders of Amherst Metal Products, working until his retirement in 1985. He was a veteran of the US Army. He was also a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion and the Vermilion Boat Club. He enjoyed boating, golf, and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of over 61 years, Laurine Mona Barnes (nee Lee), daughter, Laurie Tabar of Amherst, sons Dan Barnes of Vermilion and Tom Barnes of Elyria, six and five great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Edward and Anna (nee Seibert) Barnes and a sister, Marion Gerber.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 31, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. Prayers will be said at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion. Father Jim Holmer, pastor will officiate.

Interment will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Elyria with Military Honors provided by the Vermilion Veteran’s Council.
