Wilbur Knick, 73, US Army Veteran

Wilbur Ulysses "Bill" Knick, 73, of Lorain died Wednesday, October 29, 2003 at Lakewood Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born November 2, 1929 in Parkersburg, WV and had been a resident of Lorain from 1947 until moving back to West Virginia in 1975. He returned to Lorain in 1990.

Mr. Knicks was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict as a Private First Class attached to the Second Battalion stationed in Europe. He had been employed for 25 years as a route delivery driver for the Ideal Dairy Company of Lorain. He was later employed as a fitter at the American Shipbuilding Company of Lorain. He was a life member of American Legion Post #140 of New Haven, West Virginia. His hobbies included walking, lake fishing, and attending flea markets.

Survivors include his daughters: Debra Knick and Sandra Kirsch, both of Sheffield Township and Brenda Newman of Lorain; sons: Richard Knick of Sheffield Township, Thomas of Amherst Township, and Dennis of Avon Lake; 10 granchildren, 2 great- grandsons; brother: Harry L. Knick of San Bernadino, CA; and a sister: Betty Rickard of West Columbia, WV.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Eleanor (nee Robinson) Knick; brother: Earl P. Knick; and a sister: Peggy Rae.

Funeral Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., in Lorain. The Rev. Jack Isom, pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery where officers and members of American Legion Post #30 will conduct full military honors.

Visitation will be Sunday from 5-8 p.m. in the funeral chapel.
