Doris Lee Canter, 73, Enjoyed shopping and gardening

Doris Lee Canter (nee Mounts), 73, of Sheffield Lake, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2003 at her home following a one year illness.

She was born May 27, 1930 in Ft. Gay, West Virginia, where she lived until moving to Ohio in her later teens. She lived in Vermilion prior to moving to Sheffield Lake in 1974.

Doris was a loving housewife and mother. She was a member of Apostle's Doctrine Church in Lorain. Among several positions, in 1958 she worked at the Mansfield General Hospital School of Nursing. She enjoyed shopping, planting flowers, and gardening.

Survivors include her daughters: Edith Kelly and Janet Lambert, both of Mansfield, and Beverly Miller of Lorain; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; brother: William Edward "Ed" Mounts of Texas; and a foster son Jack Blevins of Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two years, Lewis B. Canter on January 3, 2001; son: John Alvin Canter on July 3, 1976; her parents: Charlie and Genieva (nee Biperman) Mounts; brother: John Mounts; and by her sisters: Mary Bordors and Julie Elkins.

Friends may call Monday from 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Avenue in Amherst. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Apostle's Doctrine Church; 2400 Leavitt Road in Lorain with the Rev. Roy McGlugritch, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Crownhill Cemetery in Amherst.
